SampleTank 3 authorization

Hello everyone,

I need to install SampleTank 3 on two computers, but unfortunately the old authorization/activation system no longer works properly. I can install the software, but I cannot actually use it because activation fails.

This creates a serious problem for users with legacy projects. If SampleTank 4 could fully replace SampleTank 3 in old DAW sessions — in the same way that Kontakt can often open older library setups — this would not be such an issue. But currently that is not the case.

When I open older projects that used SampleTank 3, the plugin does not load correctly, the sounds are missing, and I cannot even see which instruments were loaded in each slot. That makes restoring or revisiting past sessions extremely difficult.

Please consider one of these solutions:

  1. Restore a working authorization method for SampleTank 3.
  2. Make SampleTank 4 fully compatible as a drop-in replacement for SampleTank 3 projects.
  3. Provide a utility to read old SampleTank 3 project states and reveal loaded sounds/slots.

Many long-time IK users still depend on older sessions, and preserving access to previous work is very important.

Thank you.

Hello albridi and welcome to the forum.

As I inderstand it, you should be able to use the Authorization Manager IK Multimedia - Authorization Manager to authorize SampleTank 3 (“ST3”).

Also, for info, SampleTank 4 (“ST4”) can load and use ST3 instruments. Have a look at IK MULTIMEDIA. SOUND BETTER.

@albridi Please make sure to reply back to let @DarkStar and everybody know if the suggestions worked (they should) and mark the thread solved (the little checkbox) to keep the forum clean and clear especially with regard to solving issues.

Thank you!

Hello @DarkStar, and thank you for your reply.

The issue is that the current IK Authorization Manager does not show SampleTank 3 among the products available for activation in my account. On the other hand, the legacy authorization system for SampleTank 3 no longer works, presumably because the old IK servers are no longer active. So at the moment, there is no working way for me to authorize ST3.

Regarding SampleTank 4, yes — I understand that it can load and use SampleTank 3 instruments. However, that is not the actual problem I’m facing.

The real issue is that SampleTank 4 does not automatically replace existing SampleTank 3 instances in older DAW projects. When opening those projects, the ST3 plugin fails to load properly, and I cannot see which instruments were originally loaded in each slot. Because of that, I have no way to reconstruct the session manually in ST4.

So even though ST4 supports ST3 sounds, it does not help in recovering legacy projects where ST3 was used.

That’s why having either a working ST3 authorization method, or some form of compatibility/translation tool between ST3 and ST4 project states, would be extremely important.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi @Peter-IK, thanks for your message.

I’ve already replied with the details of the issue in the thread. At the moment, the suggested solution does not resolve the problem, as explained there.

I’ll of course update the thread and mark it as solved if a working solution is found.

Thanks.

It won’t get solved here then, Authorization Manager is still the way you authorize SampleTank 3. If you are on a 64-bit-only system that would not likely work with SampleTank 3 but I think you are referencing older computers in your original message but I’m not 100% sure.

At this point, you would need to open a software ticket with IK Support and they will be able to assist you.

Also moving this to instruments since it has to do with SampleTank 3.

Just for clarity - the IK Product Manager lists only current products, so SampleTank 3 will not be listed there. The Authorisation Manager is a different program, downloadable from the link above. And, as far as I remember you only need to enter the ST3 Serial Number.

From Gemini (with apologies)

. To authorize it on Windows, you must use the original Authorization Manager.

Step-by-Step Authorization

  1. Download Authorization Manager: If you don’t have it, download it from the IK Multimedia website.

  2. Register your Serial Number:

    • Find your serial number in your IK Multimedia User Area under My Products.

    • Open the Authorization Manager and enter this serial number.

  3. Complete Activation: Follow the on-screen prompts. If the computer is online, the software will activate automatically.

Important Troubleshooting for Windows

  • Offline Authorization: For legacy products on Windows, IK Multimedia sometimes requires the Offline Authorization process even if you are connected to the internet.

    • Temporarily disable your internet connection.

    • Launch the Authorization Manager to trigger “Offline Mode.”

    • Follow the prompts to generate an Authorization Request.html file, then use a browser to complete the process on the IK website.

  • Restore Purchases: If the software is authorized but your sound libraries are still locked, open the IK Custom Shop application, log in, and select Restore my purchases from the account menu.

  • Manual Downloads: Since SampleTank 3 may not appear in the Product Manager, you must download the installer and sound content directly from your User Area > My Products page.

Thank you both for your help and clarification, I really appreciate it  .

I will go ahead and open a support ticket with IK Support to try to resolve the issue.

Thanks again.
