What is the future of Sampletank and IK Instruments? (Sampletank, Pianoverse, MODO, Syntronik, Sampletron etc)

Long time user of IK hardware and software. One thing I am really curious about, what does the future hold for Sampletank and IK Instruments? Will we get a v5 and beyond of Sampletank? Because I was really hoping to get Syntronik 3 and Sampletron 3, but those have been discontinued which is really terrible news as both instruments are really awesome.

The only reason I can see those getting sidelined is because Sampletank is gonna be the main instrument moving forward for samples? However…now comes Pianoverse (which is also great) so confused with IKs direction of Instruments to be honest. Will sampletank be the main focus? Or will we get successors to Syntronik and Sampletron as well? Will Pianoverse be discontinued in a few years as well?

Love IK stuff just hope for better long term support! Devs if you read this please bring back Sampletron and Syntronik and keep developing Pianoverse as it sounds amazing!

i have no idea. but syntronic and sampletron are dead. the mysterious killing of the syntronic product line i still can’t get over. my only guess is there were too many bugs and IKM gave up on it.

That is not why, if you have issues with Syntronik 2 or SampleTron 2 the IK Support team can assist you.

Care to elaborate (if you can) why Syntronik and Sampletron received the discontinue option vs continued development? Both instruments are actually really really good and Sampletron 2 doesn’t really have competition to be honest outside of GForce Mtron which is way older but still updated and supported (and doesn’t sound as good as Sampletron 2).

From a user perspective 4-6 years is way too short of a life cycle for instruments in my opinion. Constant OS and DAW upgrades, too many variables for bugs. So I’m hesitant to dig into Pianoverse more because of this. What if that becomes a big part of my workflow (the pianos are phenomenal) and it also gets discontinued in a couple of years?

So just curious what the instrument side of IK will look like in the coming years! Sampletank 5? Syntronik 3? Sampletron 3?!

So…no future plans/updates for IK software instruments I guess? :face_with_peeking_eye:

Where does it say that in this thread or elsewhere? We don’t share non-public news until we are ready to announce something. Stay tuned via our newsletter, site, and social media and you will be among the first to know about any updates.

Was an assumption on my part since you ignored my original question above. I’m not asking for release dates or product announcements btw. But some kind of “we have some updates coming for existing instruments or new versions are in the works” etc would be welcome information especially since this is the official IK forum.

Some of the instruments haven’t had any updates for years and seeing as 2 really good ones got discontinued with no real logical explanation as to why, as a customer I’d just like to know some kind of roadmap. Are we getting updates to current instruments? Are more instruments being discontinued? Or are new versions being worked on? That sort of thing.

you are not going to get any sort of pre-release insider info from IKM on a public forum.

Yeah I know, not really asking for anything like that. Just something like “yeah devs have some updates coming” or “yeah we have some new instruments we are working on” etc etc. Not asking for a specific product, release date or insider info. Really just any info that suggests the instrument side is not totally abandoned! :joy:

Some user at gearspace basically said IK are just focusing on hardware, t-Racks, Amplitube and ToneX moving forward (although I don’t know how true that is or what his relationship is with IK).

So if this is true and EOL for MODO, Sampletank, Miroslav Philharmonik, Hammond B3-X etc a heads up would be nice so users can find another instrument platform to move to that will be supported and updated.

Rebuilding my Studio rig right now and looking to see what software stays and what goes, don’t really want to reinstall anything that won’t be supported well into the future. So that’s why I’m asking for any info as I may hold off reinstalling pianoverse or Sampletank for the time being.

There are instruments planned in the future, I actually am not sure of the precise timeline so I’m not even hiding anything there  I would have been a bit more informative last week but we will see (and it is a matter of juggling multiple releases so at this time nothing is really lagging but we have the somewhat good issue of too many things coming up if that makes sense).

I know it can be frustrating to hear that I/we cannot share specific confidential/behind the scenes information about two of the discontinued products, I get that. But that is not information I can share for multiple internal reasons.

You should be safe with Pianoverse, I was happy to see a bit of a resurgence in realization of how great those pianos sound during the last group buy when people were choosing the pianos among their other group buy choices and being pleasantly surprised. SampleTank 4 has been the 64-bit host for things like Miroslav Philharmonik 2 to give that more life and I don’t foresee SampleTank 4 going away either. It really functions well for what it is and is pretty true to its more rompler-style roots, I’ve found SampleTank very useful for putting together templates for composition for years even before I was with IK (and I’ve been here almost 17 years).

Some user doesn’t seem to know what they’re talking about. They do not have any relationship with IK that I can see except for possibly customer (current or maybe ex-)
