Product: Hammond B3-X
Summary:
Suggestion on how to provide a missing feature that is central to some Hammond Organ playing styles.
Problem / Use Case:
The Hammond B3-X is very good (thank you) and I appreciate all the great work that has been done. However, its does not currently seem possible to play the atonal percussive hits that are really quite central to some hammond organ playing styles. Note that I am not referring to key click. These short videos linked below best illustrate what I am talking about. Key hit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MoHmxydWkfA&t=39s Foot Thump: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPvL4bcxdF0
Proposed Solution:
Others might be able to think of a better solution, but I would suggest these sounds could be best offered via separate midi channels (one for the lower keyboard - eg midi channel 4, one for the foot pedals - eg. channel 5). Users then have the option set up midi channel splits on both the lower keyboard, and the foot pedals that would reserve a select a range of midi notes for this percussive effect and preserve the other notes for trigger normal hammond notes. A total of midi channels would be utilised if you are play both keyboards and the foot pedal. The percussive sound could be the same on all keys - i.e. zero tonality & all percussion, or just contain a whisker/trace of the each underlying note (with the balance between thump and note being adjustable by a slider). If its possible to do this it would place the B-3X above all its VST rivals and allow it recreate pretty much every aspect of an old school Hammond. Thanks.
