Request for easy FX operation on Tonex Pedal

Summary:
Effects Mode / Pedalboard mode for the pedal. Change the functions of the ABC switches to assignable parameters for your effects or on/off for your effects.

Problem / Use Case:
I find that I don’t use Tonex effects on the pedal when just playing or experimenting. It just isn’t the same as sitting with my other pedals. The reason is because I don’t want to menu dive to have to turn my effects on/off and when jamming it’s not easy to change the fx to match whatever thing is happening. I can’t open the editor to do this in the middle of the song because the momentum gets lost. So I end up using external effects for pretty much everything even when I like (or prefer) the sound of the Tonex effects. Also I don’t use multiple tone models for a single song so I’ll pick a tone and play it for a longer period of time so quick access to the tone models isn’t important to me. Also I find in the situation I’m describing it’s not about dialing in a sound I can foresee in advance, it’s about making quick adjustments to the effects to give me what is more inspiring at the time.

I don’t generally play live but the flow of this would work well for someone who wanted to take the pedal as an all in one without having to have presets built for every song or tone they are looking for.

Note that there was a May post that gave a similar ask (I was coming to post this and read through it) but the problem and resolve were different than what I am thinking.

I’ve tried to layout in as much detail as I could what this would function like in my mind. One thing I didn’t address is how things are saved which could be cumbersome depending on how it’s done currently. Generally love what’s been happening with Tonex. Keep it up.

Proposed Solution:
Part 1 – Selection

Hold Model button – Global Setting – Operation Mode – FX Mode

Preset Knob – Still controls preset and saves as normal

Model Knob

Spin – Essentially selects which slot you are controlling. Each of these is the button press assignment and sets what the parameter control is looking at.

  • A FX Assign
  • B FX Assign
  • C FX Assign
  • AB FX Assign
  • BC FX Assign
  • Ext 1 FX Assign
  • Ext 2 FX Assign
    • For example
      • Spin to get to footswitch A FX Assign
      • Click model.Slot is selected. Parameter knob now effects this slot. Alternatively you could eliminate the click and have this just be a spin to select and click to edit.
      • Hold Model to access effect assignment. Spin to select
        • Noise Gate
        • Comp
        • Mod
        • Delay
        • Reverb
        • Tuner
        • Tap Tempo
      • Click model to confirm.

Footswitches

  • These are On/Off controls for the assigned FX (except tap tempo which is tap tempo).
  • I assume only one Mod / delay / reverb could be on at a time but it would be great to be able to have the effect assignment be independent and overwrite the previous. So multiple mod slots with different effects and values on different footswitches but only one mod at a time. So you could switch from your chorus to a flanger or between the tape and digital delays set up differently by hitting the switch.
    • If you were running a delay on A and B switches and you had been using footswitch A.It could be on or off. When you hit footswitch B then B becomes On and A (and any other assigned delay slots) becomes Off.

Parameter Knob

This is used for selecting the menu type features of the effect. So for example the Delay:

  • Spin Parameter – Toggles between Primary effects
    • Toggles between Digital and Tape delay (or the different reverb/mod types)
  • Click Parameter – Selects the toggleable parameters. Spin Parameter to change. Click Parameter to confirm.
    • Normal / Ping Pong
    • Sync on/off
    • Pre/Post

Gain / Bass / Mid / Treble Knobs

These control the parameters of the effect you are on (selected with Model). For example the reverb would be:

  • Gain = Time
  • Bass = Predelay
  • Mid = Color
  • Treble = Mix

If more effects had more knobs then you could use the Alt hold function as current to get to the other parameters. Master volume stays master volume.
