Recording electronic drums (with music/backing tracks) with iRig 2

Hi everyone. I just received my iRig 2 today and tried to get it all set up for recording my electronic drums but something isn’t adding up which brings me here. I think I have done everything this guy explained https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQgLIlJW7SA&t=2s but neither the iRig Recorder app nor the camera app on my iPhone is picking up the audio from the drums or the backing track, only the external audio of my drumsticks hitting the drum pads. I feel like it’s a stupid setting somewhere. Is anyone able to assist?
Using:

  • A male-male 1/4" guitar cable from L/Mono output on drum module (TD-11) into iRig 2
  • A male-male 3.5mm cord from laptop to mix in on drum module for backing track (spotify)
  • Hardwired iRig 2 3.5mm cord into 3.5mm lightning adapter on iPhone 14
  • 1/4" headphones connected to drum module.

First, please note that iRig 2 is a single mono input usually/mostly used for guitar/bass input. The iRig Stream or I/O lines of mobile interfaces will likely provide a more representative stereo sound that you expect from your kit. You might end up more with “early 60s perspective” by recording in mono rather than the traditional audience or drummer’s perspective

It sounds like your iPhone’s microphone is picking up audio instead of iRig 2. This could be an issue with your adapter or perhaps a permissions issue.

For the adapter, are you using an official Apple adapter? Check out this FAQ for more information about that and generally using iRig 2 for streaming.

With regard to permissions, check that microphone permissions are engaged/enabled in iOS. Please check out this FAQ for the steps even though it references iRig HD X it could help.

Moved to Creators since this is about a mobile audio interface.
