I built this monster as a meme because I’m a preamp and booster fanatic. What I found funny is that I’ve used all these pedals as boosters except for the KSR Ceres, which I’m using as a preamp, and it’s worked really well. It sounds very modern, actually. I hope to have time this weekend to take some captures for Tonex.
+1 from another booster fanatic — half my drive captures are pedals being used as clean boosters into something else. Booster mode is where the most interesting pedal-into-amp interaction happens for me too.
A few drive pedals from my library that I captured specifically with their boost mode / boost setting, in case it helps with your project:
- Analog Man Prince of Tone (low-gain transparent boost setting)
- Benson Preamp (volume up, gain low — almost a clean preamp boost)
- Strymon Sunset (Texas / Treble Booster channel as clean boost)
- Strymon Riverside (minimum gain, used as a clean tube-style booster)
For each of these I also did side-by-side videos comparing the original pedal vs the TONEX capture, with the source pedal’s settings shown on screen — useful if you want to A/B against your own captures when yours go live. YT @tonexpedallab (link in my signature).
All the captures are free on ToneNET (Advanced Training, no amp/cab baked in):
Looking forward to seeing how the KSR Ceres lands as a preamp once you’ve captured it!
