Hi all!
I couldn’t find a separate thread for the X Gear pedals, so I hope it’s okay to post the following here:
I bought my IK Multimedia X-Drive this autumn, and while it does work as a standalone pedal in front of my amp, I’m having trouble getting it to function via USB. This, in turn, is something of a let-down, as part of its appeal was to use it with the AmpliTube software for recording on my computer.
Anyway, I wanted to see if there’s anything obvious that I’ve forgotten in terms of using the unit correctly, and if anyone has useful tips with regards to this, I’d be thankful for that.
In terms of the unit itself, I’ve switched it to interface mode in the global settings and hooked it up to the computer with the supplied USB cable. I’ve tried both different USB cables and different USB ports, but the computer still claims that no X Gear unit is connected. For good measure, I’ve also tried connecting it in live mode with the various cable and port constellations mentioned above, but that makes no difference. Equally, the supplied cable works with other USB interfaces that I own, and I’ve also restarted both the unit and the computer in every combination I can think of, again without results. I have no indication that there’s anything wrong with my computer’s USB ports.
On the computer end of things, I’ve installed the ASIO driver, Amplitube 5 and the X Gear Librarian, and I’ve also authenticated and registered all the pieces of software that need that, plus the X-Drive unit itself. Both Amplitube and the X Gear Librarian insist that no X Gear unit is connected when I hook up the pedal in interface mode to the computer.
Otherwise (read: in live mode), my X Drive seems to be in working order. A couple of the presets featuring the more regular overdrive pedals come across as somewhat harsh and/or unnecessarily loud compared to the ones preceding and succeeding them, but nothing else seems particularly off to me.
Am I forgetting anything painfully obvious here in getting the X-Drive to work with my computer, or could my unit actually be partially defective? Should I be trying a factory reset? That’s the only thing I can think of that I haven’t tried…
