Engl Powerball unusual behavior

Postby Crimsonhell » Fri Jul 12, 2019 8:43 pm

Hey peps,

Recently I got Engl Powerball and with this and only this Amp there is a constant noise even on low gain / vol setup. Does anyone have this or knows what might going on ?

Pic for reference you can see the static on master and output. Image

Hi Crimsonhell :)
This is with a LP plugged in:

This is with a Telecaster (single coils):

I have tried to approximate your settings. This seems like normal behaviour to me (but I could be wrong), and it is the same on the E650.

A cursory search and it seems like the real one is kind of a noisy amp anyway. And Engl has apparently added a built in noise gate to the Powerball II.

I would agree that a certain amount of noise with either a real or a virtual Powerball is perhaps not unexpected. Depending on the circumstances in your playing environment (particularly other electric/electronic devices, as well as how well your guitar/cable is shielded), noise can become a thing, especially with higher gain amp/pedal settings.

Besides the noise gate built into the Amplitube interface (which I confess to never really using) there are the noise gate pedals in the Slash and Dimebag bundles. I haven't tried the Dimebag one yet (though it's on my list!), but I can generally tame noise associated with high-gain amp/pedal models by throwing a "/Gate" pedal or two in there and tweaking the settings.

...and you'll have another gate option (and another requested piece of gear) coming soon too :)

The other gear that comes along with ti will be much more exciting though :)

A Malmsteen collection? Well, that could be interesting. There are some bells and whistles on the Marshall YJM100 that wouldn't necessarily mean a lot to me, but I hear on the Internet (source of all knowledge and wisdom, of course!) that it's a pretty solid "modernized plexi-style" Marshall, and I do love me a plexi-style Marshall. 8-)
