intermittent popping noise

I am using the IK Multimedia iRig Mic Studio digital studio microphone for iPhone and when recording on the irig app there is a popping noise that fires off for a few seconds and then stops and then starts again intermittently. What could be the cause. The mic sounds great otherwise but obviously I can't record if this is going to continue. I have the mic plugged into my iphone and it happens whether I have headphones in or not.
