Another Miroslav Philharmonik 2 Install Question

Postby Lee337 » Thu Jan 03, 2019 5:30 am

Do I have to download and install all 16 sound zip files to be able to use it? I ask because after I installed the first two, I get a 'failed to load instrument' error message when trying to load any instrument.

Hello Lee337 and welcome to the forum.

I imagine that if you have only installed 2 folders of sound content, you are trying to load one that you haven't installed hence the error message.

The suggestion will definitely be to install all sound content before trying to use the app, as MP2 will need to build its database on first opening.

I know it takes a long time to do, but it is worth it.

Hope that helps.

Will I also be required to install all five sound library updates?

They are probably only relatively small downloads.

To be on the safe side I would install all, in order. But, they may be cumulative. If so, then you would only need the latest.

The sound updates total about 7GB in all and they replace/update sounds in the original set of content folders.

As DarkStar suggests, install the content in order and then the updates. It's a long winded process but it's generally not worth taking shortcuts.

Thank you all for the quick replies. It will a looooong process, but I will install them in order.

Another thing... why do I get only 6 months from the date of purchase to access and download the samples? If I don't, will I lose them forever? I see there is no time limit on the on sound library updates, though. Why is that?

There have been various threads about the whole 6 month limit before. No official reasons have been given and so I would not like to give comment. IK suggest that you back them up yourself. Quoted from the download page "We do suggest to backup the sounds to DVD or an external hard drive for future installs" and I heartily agree with this (not only because of the 6months limit, but also for broadband download limits etc).

If you don't back them up and require them after the 6 months have expired, you can pay a fee to have them made available to you again.

I guess there is no time limit on the update files as you can't use them without the original sound content, but I'm only guessing.

Hope that helps.

I guess it's not a real big problem if it was just for MP2, but I purchased Total Studio 2 Max this past weekend and was surprised to get the same six month time frame for Sample Tank 3 and Syntronic samples. This is going to take quite some time for me. Maybe I missed it, but I wish I was made aware of this before I purchased.

Thanks for all your help.

It is a little time consuming, yes.

I also have TS2M and I just left the computer on and downloaded all the content overnight. You could do this, back the files up and then you could do the install when you have time, alleviating the 6 month issue.

I often question the multiple download/install method of some of the IK software as, especially for the install, you have to be in attendance to click the relevant buttons, whereas most other manufacturer's software will move/install a large amount of data automatically. However, I have experienced downloads/installs stopping midway and then having to go all the way back to the beginning again with other manufacturers. At least with the IK multiple download/install you would only need to re-try the files that failed, although I have not personally experienced this anyway.

It's one of those 6 of 1 and half-dozen of the other situations.

I have a question a bit outside this field but I can't find the answer anywhere.
I have Philharmonik on my main mac with all the sounds on an external HD. I just bought a new macbook pro and I'd like to reinstall all philharmonik but still use the sound from the HD. Do i have to reinstall all the sound content or I can point the HD after the installation of the Philharmonik sampler?
thank you in advance guys I can't find a solution.

Hello timonmusicien and welcome to the forum.

Yes, you should be able to install the MP2 software (and authorization Manager and Custom Shop programs) on the new machine, connect the external disk and Set the disk path in MP2's Preference Settings.
