Difference between TRS5 and owning all processors?

Postby bminnix » Wed Oct 17, 2018 4:54 am

So, I'm just curious, I got TRS MAX through a deal about a year ago (I think) which gave me all the processors except the new ones in TRS 5. Then I got in on the group buy which I was able to get all the remaining processors, but I didn't buy TRS. When I go to TRS Custom Shop and click on "My Gear" > "Not Purchased", there are no items to view.

Does this mean I have TRS 5? Is there something I'm still missing? It's more of a curiosity, not just looking for things to purchase, but wondering if there is some additional reason I need to purchase TRS5 separately.

Just to check - you got T-RackS MAX, that is version 4, a year ago? "TRS" looks a lot like "TR5" ;)

What you have is the TR5 processors that you got as part of the GB and the TR5 editions of those processors you got in TR4 MAX. What you will not have are the features (plug-in resizing, album assembly etc.) that are part of the three TR5 collections (TR5, TR5 Deluxe and TR5 MAX).

You might like to get the TR5 Custom Shop too - that will give you the TR5 standalone program and the "TR5 Suite" plug-in (so you can chain your FX).

---------------------------------------------
The T-Racks 5 Custom Shop page says (my text tinting):
What's NEW
  • 4 new processors available for separate purchase: Master Match, Dyna-Mu, ONE, EQual
  • Resizable*, redesigned interface and plugin GUIs
  • Expandable broadcast-ready metering suite*
  • Floating meters option*
  • Chains of up to 16 processors
  • Album Assembly section with waveform editing and metadata*
  • Enhanced audio engine
  • Up to 192 kHz/32-bit floating point*
  • 4 dithering algorithms
  • Equal gain option*
  • Signature presets from the industry's top engineers*
* Features available by upgrading to T-RackS 5, T-RackS 5 Deluxe or T-RackS 5 MAX.

It would be useful to know if you do have any of those features. Can you check and let us know?

Okay, yeah, I don't have all that.

The resizable GUI would be pretty sweet, haven't really used it enough to know if the interface is redesigned.

I do have up to 16 processors though. Would the dithering algorithms be a part of Standalone mode? I have it as a DAW plug-in and either they're not in the plug-in, I don't know where to look, or I don't have this feature.

I definitely have the 4 new processors.

There were more than 16 in T-RackS (v4) MAX weren't there. I would have thought that you would have all those.

Dithering is part of the T-Racks 5 standalone, under File >> Project Properties.

I meant 16 processors in a signal chain. I have 40 processors total.

Okay, I was thinking that since dithering had to do with the bits for recording it would be handled by Live instead of the plug-in. Thanks for confirming.

^^^
You are right.

When using the plug-ins in a DAW, dithering is best handled by the DAW. When you use the T-RackS 5 standalone program, dithering can be done there.

Thanks for all the info. After looking at what features were available in 5, I went ahead and upgraded for the $50.
