Using the keyboard for one shots

Postby ski88keys » Wed Feb 14, 2018 5:53 pm

I imported a WAV of a car screeching sound from Studio One 3 Into ST3. Is there are way to make it a one shot... Press the piano key and the entire WAV plays without holding the note down?

Crank Envelope 1 Release up to its max (60 seconds), or, better, to the length of the screech?

Thanks DarkStar! That did the trick...and on many other imported WAVs I have done in my DAW. Been having a great time recently REALLY diving in ST3 again. Not sure if people are aware or not, but the WAV importing feature of ST3 is a huge function of ST3. I’ve been using ST3 for many years, but have basically just used the stock sounds and only did minor sound manipulation through the attack, decay, and using the LP filter. Am glad to be diving deeper into ST3. Thanks again for the Assistance.

hi Dark Star:

extending the release allows the sample to play out, but I can't find a combination of the other controls (hold, sustain and release) that keep the volume up fully until the sample plays out.

thanks,
Tom

thanks for the welcome and the reply, DarkStar!!

even when I max out the release, although the sample plays out, it starts getting softer when I release the key.
no combination of the hold/decay/release settings in Env 1 seems to make a difference to the better.

I would rather the sample play out at full volume, with a one key trigger.
is there a mode in ST that would treat the samples more as sound EFX than musical notes?

hope that makes sense.

thanks again!!

Hi FearlessLieder,

Did you ever get an answer how to successfully create one-shots in ST without the volume decreasing over time? I’m facing the same issue and haven’t been able to find an answer. I know it’s been years but I thought I’d reach out.
Thanks!!
