Trying to get a clean tone

Hello,

I’m running an iPad with an iRig2 into a set of earphones. No matter which amp I choose and no matter how it’s set, I can never get a clean tone...even when I pick the Clean Preset. It’s as if there’s always a gain pedal active in the background even if I don’t have one visibly engaged. Any idea what’s going on here?

Note* The iRig 2 offers it's own 'Gain' control. Make sure this is not being turned up to the point of 'clipping' or the distortion of your incoming signal.
