What's the original version of ST3 I bought now called, lol

Lets see, I bought ST3 when it first came out, whatever the full blown version it was, but IK keeps changing the names of their software and/or breaking them down into a thousand differing versions.
What is that original "XL' or 'Grand' or whatever the heck, version now being called?

Lol, IK keeps me so confused,

SampleTank 3 came out with the full version called... SampleTank 3. There is also SampleTank Custom Shop which is the free version. SampleTank 3 SE is a version that has smaller sound set and is included with some hardware.

The best way to see the available versions of any IK product is to visit the product page on our web site and click on the "Versions" link. Here is the SampleTank 3 "Versions" page: http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/sa ... 3-versions

Ok Peter, thanks.

I guess what I was trying to find out is if the original SampleTank3 is (still) the sort of 'flagship' version, which it was when it came out, iirc.

However, I see that MAX version, which IK apparently throws in all the library content that wasn't yet available when ST3 first happened.

I was just wondering where the original now stands in the pecking order, lol.

I'm sorry, I almost literally can't fit another bit of info in my brain. I can't bring myself to read through reams of company product info anymore. Its ok when having to deal with only a few products, and rarely if at all like in the 'old' pre-internet days.
If a product line isn't simple and simply laid out my eyes glaze over, lol.

It takes hours every so often just finding out whether any of my audio plugs have been through an update. Plus, I think there's maybe 1 or 2 out of all of them which actually sends out email alerts. Otherwise, every 4 months or so, I gotta go down the whole list and check for myself, lol

Anywho.....

It all depends on what you mean by "Flagship".

The original ST3 is this one:
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/sampletank3/
with over 4,000 instruments and a 33 GB sound library.

I presume that that is what you have.

The SampleTank 3 MAX edition

http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/stmax/
adds instruments to the above; it includes over 4,600 instruments and 52GB of samples.

SampleTank 3 SE
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/sampletank3se/
is a fully functional, affordable special edition of the ultimate sound and groove workstation with a 6.5 GB instrument library.

SampleTank 3 Custom Shop
http://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/sampletankcs/
is the fully functional FREE version of SampleTank 3 that lets you purchase, download, edit and play instruments from the entire massive collection of SampleTank 3 add-on instruments. It comes with 30 fully editable instruments.

As for updates, if your software is working OK, then you do not need them. Otherwise, for IK Multimedia products anyway, it is easy just to check the Releases in your User Area / My Products section.
