This probably shows that some time spent using different combinations of gain at various stages may help the problem.

troyp42 wrote:I tried turning the gain down and the noise gate up but Ive noticed that every time I pluck a string the noise is there in the background.

Yep, the noise gate will let ALL sound through or none at all, so if the noise is still there when the gate opens to let the wanted sound through you'll hear the noise as well.

That means that somewhere you are probably creating a feedback loop (or your gain is really high somewhere). Is this with the signal going to your guitar amp?

troyp42 wrote:Do yothink the Irig2 HD would solve all these issues? If so maybe I should fork out the bikkies and get it.

I haven't had any experience with either interface so I wouldn't like to give any advice as to whether this would fix the issue. However, as the iRig HD2 does the A/D conversion it would (hopefully) offer a cleaner signal to the software, instead of the mic input/internal A/D conversion that you are currently using. This is not an endorsement of one interface over any other - I'm a firm believer that proper gain staging and fault finding often solves or highlights issues, before throwing money at the problem.

Have you opened a ticket with IK Support to see if they can offer any advice on this?

Thanks for the advice and help. I havent opened a ticket yet with support but will do that and see what they say.

With the squealing this was with no guitar connected at all not even the Irig2 was plugged in, which was very weird to me.

I would guess that, without the iRig connected, the system had defaulted back to the iMac's built-in microphone and speakers as input and output causing the feedback loop.

oh ok yeah that makes sense. AmpliTube was open and set to use built in mic so that’s probably what it was. Thanks again for your help.
