How to authorize SampleTank 3?

Postby charlzm » Wed Nov 06, 2024 1:39 am

I'm trying to install older sound libraries into ST4. I read the forum post about how to do this, so I downloaded ST3 to my computer.

When I started ST3 for the first time, the old IK auth manager popped up and said I was offline (I'm not), so I tried the offline authorization method, which consists of saving an html file and then opening it on a computer with an internet connection. This leads to an IK page that says this is an outdated auth manager and that I need to use the new one.

I already have the new one on my system, but it doesn't "see" ST3 so I can't authorize it that way.

I tried to add it to the new IK Auth Mgr that was already on my system by selecting the plus sign and adding the serial. This seemed to work except that ST3 still doesn't show up in auth mgr and I am still prompted for authorization when I open ST3.

None of this would matter except that the option to import legacy instruments or samples in ST3 is greyed out, presumably because the software isn't authorized.

So... what to do? I would really like to keep using the Miroslav and Sampletron sounds I paid for.

Addendum:

I tried to use the IK Product Manager v1.0.5 to authorize ST3, but the "helpful" newer version won't allow the older version to install, instead insisting on updating to the latest version. I thought about uninstalling the newer version but I'm concerned about losing authorizations to my newer software and also, the older version will probably try to force an update anyway.

And no, you can't turn off you internet connection to install it; you get an error.

I would call this whole thing a joke, but it's not funny.

You should think of SampleTank 3 and Sample|Tank 4 as different products. Installing / Authorizing either will not affect the number of Authorizations available for the other. And will not overwrite / replace the other.

And, you can load the ST3 libraries (including any legacy libraries (e.g. the original Miroslav Philharmonik and SampleTron) that you have Imported into ST3, into ST4 Custom Shop. If you have the ST3 library available you may not need to install / authorize the ST3 software itself.

And, the IK Authorization Manager is different from the IK Product Manager. Each handles different products

Anyway, for the Authorization Manager (dated June 2019), have a look at:
https://www.ikmultimedia.com/registration/ under Legacy Products. See also Discontinued Products

and https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/authorizationmanager/

Not sure how I'm supposed to import sounds into SampleTank 3 when, as I mentioned, the option to "import legacy instruments" or "import samples" are greyed out.

Somehow, I have managed to get my old Miroslav and SampleTank 2.5 sounds imported into ST4, but my favorite sound library, SampleTron, will not import in ST4 and I can't get it into ST3.

I do not know why those menu choices are greyed out. The best thing t do is contact Technical Support, via https://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support/sw/
