Adding a sub to iLoud Micros

Postby kanihoncho » Sat Sep 07, 2024 7:32 pm

Hi all,

iLoud Micros are landing today and I'm excited to hook them up. I bought these for listening not mixing. The reviews for most desktop speakers costing about $100 less were not too exciting. IF I decided to add a small sub:

1. What would I being looking for in a sub connection-wise?
2. What cables/adaptors do I need (if any)?
3. What would be the connection path?

I would be looking for an inexpensive, good value sub that would match well with the Micros.

Thanks for any advice

1.
Line-level input/output: Look for a subwoofer that has a stereo RCA line input and output (or a 3.5mm jack input/output). The iLoud Micros have RCA inputs, and you’ll need the subwoofer to match that connection for seamless integration.

Crossover control: This feature allows you to set the frequency at which the sub takes over. Since the iLoud Micros already have good low-frequency response, a subwoofer with an adjustable crossover (somewhere around 50-100 Hz) will give you more control over blending the two.

Powered subwoofer: Ensure that it’s an active (powered) subwoofer with its own amplifier, so it doesn’t draw power from your iLoud Micros.

Well . . . I decided on the PreSonus Eris Sub 8BT. Is the 3.5mm to RCA cable from IK a good quality cable? Does it make sense to buy a "quality" RCA cable to run from the sub to the iLouds? Thanks.

Look for a subwoofer that supports high-pass filtering.wolfenstein 3d This feature allows the sub to manage only the lower frequencies, while the iLoud Micros handle the higher frequencies.
