Pianoverse - freezing notes at 96KHz 128 buffer or higher

Postby jason.martin.nl » Fri Jul 12, 2024 2:17 pm

When I use Pianoverse at a samplerate of 48KHz the buffer can be set to any size and it works fine. However when I set the standalone app or Logic Pro to 96KHz I have to set the buffer to 64 or lower for it to work. This will work ok on a 64 buffer but it's periodically making the CPU spike to 100% at that setting. When I set the buffer (while still on 96KHz sample rate) to 128 or higher, after I play a few notes the notes will sustain and not allow me to play any more notes until I click on the "!" in Pianoverse, then it lets me play a few more notes and the same behavior. I'm using an Apogee Duet 2 but I also tried using the built-in sound card and got the exact same behavior. My computer is a new Mac Studio M2 Max with 32 GB of RAM and my sound library is installed on a fast external Samsung SSD. All other virtual instruments seem to be fine including SampleTank. Anyone else experiencing similar issues? I have submitted a ticket to support as well but I find it takes a while before they respond so I figured I'd ask in the forum as well.

I experience exactly the same on both my M1 Mac Mini and Intel Macbook Pro.

96khz at 64 buffer or less works fine. Any large buffer size my controller can't trigger any notes after a period of time. I seem to recall that I can still use the on screen keyboard, but I can't be absolutely certain. The panic button is the only way to get things working. This "usually" works but not always.

It is not specific to your audio interface as I've experienced the same with a focusrite and and Axe I/O.

I did report the issue to support. They really did try to help but ultimately they did not resolve the issue and said they would speak with colleagues about what could be the problem. This was a couple of months ago and there has been an update to Pianoverse since but the issue still persists.

96khz at 64 buffer works fine most of the time for me, however 128 would give me a bit more breathing space and is what I would run at if I could.

I am encountering the same issue - please let me know if there is a resolution to this issue, it is quite inhibitive of me using this software for what I purchased it for.

I reported my issue weeks ago and got a response back within a day. However it appears they did not fully read what I had wrote as the response was to set my buffer higher. I responded back to say it’s when I set the buffer higher that the issue happens and I have not heard any back since. I’ve even asked for an update this week and have not heard back as well.
