How to use hammer ons?

Hey,

I'm trying to enter a simple riff with Modo Bass into my sequencer (Reaper):

How can I get some good sounding hammer ons?
- Without them, the second, hammered notes sound too detached.
- The key switch is making the second, hammered notes waaaay too quiet and snappy. What is this function trying to model?
- I get timing problems with legato slide.

Any ideas?

Many years later I'm going to answer this because someone like me, in the future, may come looking for it, as a search engine sent me here.
So the proper modifier key is C0 but in some piano rolls it may be a different "C". As in my case it's C2, using FL Studio.
