Would like to follow up on a Support ticket #3151217

Postby Dr3thepooner » Tue Apr 11, 2023 7:31 am

Hello All,

[mod redacted - forwarded but for the future please see viewtopic.php?f=10&t=19505 for information about any support ticket inquiries]

- Just in case if anyone heard of this - AT5 MAX - will crash when output / gain is too hot. (Crashes in standalone mode, as well as in Daw).

App hangs and needs to be restarted.

This is 100% isolated to output being too hot - when its spiking red.

All latest drivers - Win 11 / Scarlett 4i4.

Anyone experienced this?

Sorry, but to clarify does this happen on clean as long as there is heavy clipping too ? Just on the inputs or outputs or does it need to be both ?

This is happening, so far, when output is being too hot. I mean, if I drive input higher, it will clip the output as well. This does not matter if its clean or not.

I play bass, I only started seeing this with my Music man - which has active pickups and is crazy hot / has insane amount of low end. I have to tone the pickup / bass knobs down quite a bit.

- The ASIO driver, looking like will stop responding for a second and then will recover (at which time AT5 app just hangs leaking RAM). But this never happened to me when I was NOT using aplitube.

Using Win 10 fully patched , Axe IO as the audio interface. Amplitube 5.5.5.5 and with the Mesa Triple Crown with a Metal Zone 2 and driven with EMG 81 pickups which is as hot as I can make the chain. Maxed out guitar , maxed out inputs and about 85% clipping on the monitors. No crashing even after a 10 minute torture test.

I will try to make it crash outside of AT5, just for fun.

Will try to load the audio track Ableton and see if I can drive it bananas. Maybe its just ASIO driver issue? (The one that came with 4i4)

I use the ASIO driver that comes with the Axe IO but I will swap it out with ASIO4ALL when I use the Axe IO with Rocksmith (a guitar learning game). I compose the riffs in Presonus One and then translate it into CDLC for Rocksmith and then practice the new riffs in Rocksmith. ASIO with Axe for Amplitube 5 and ASIO4ALL when I am using the Axe with Rocksmith. Both work flawlessly. It very well may be an out of date ASIO driver. With the Axe IO for others reading this :Do not use ASIO4ALL as it will only provide incomplete support for the Axe interface. With Rocksmith it works only because the default channel in and out happens to match those same specific two ports on the Axe IO.

So the its the 4i4 Unit, not Amplitube 5, is anyone is wondering.

- All the drivers are up to date
- Windows 11 fully updated

-----------
When 4i4 Scarlett, plugged into my PC, its using BUS usb power. I can reproduce the issue without even any Soft running, or any outputs plugged in (no mains , no headphones), just an instrument cable in, - > Crank gain - > touch the other end of the cable and the device restarts.

They claim its an underpowered USB ports... I am yet to only try the USB hub with power. but there are countless threads on this issue. Might have to exchange it for something else.

I have the Axe IO on a 4A powered USB hub and only a Nektar Pacer plugged into it as well. The Axe is USB 2.0 spec’d for some reason but may work on USB 3.0. USB can become a choke point and when a signal processor runs out of data it often will crash. You’re basically live streaming data to Amplitube 5 and a crash can be expected when the data runs out. Disable the hub while you are playing to it and see if it crashes. Don’t yank the plug you can damage the interface if you do. USB is really warm swappable not hot swap.
