The answer the forum should answer is here:

When you can, please download and install this firmware update for the iRig Stomp i/o and let us know if this resolves the behaviors you have encountered on your iPadOS device.

Just summarising here to save others like me some time:

iRig Stomp I/O will not work with the IK Multimedia USB-C to Mini-DIN cable.

Instead, buy a USB-C to USB-B cable.

It would also save time to check the product page for that cable which does not list iRig Stomp I/O: https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/c ... -din-cable

On the iRig Stomp I/O main web page it states (note this is a direct quote from the iRig Stomp I/O page:
Compatible with USB-C devices (requires USB-A to USB-C adaptor or USB-B to USB-C cable)

Unfortunately, I’ve not been able to get the iRig Stomp I/O to work reliably with an iPad Pro via USB-B to USB-C.

I’ve tried closing the app fully (via swipe up) and rebooting the iPad, but always encounter the same problems: the iPad app seems to recognise that it’s plugged into something, but there’s no sound and it won’t let me select any stomp pedals or presets.

Only on one occasion did I manage to get this working (it just worked when I plugged everything in), and it worked reasonably well, except the overall sound quality was not as good as that of the desktop app (very tinny, with no bottom end).

And, unfortunately, in the app settings there doesn’t seem to be anything that lets you troubleshoot the connection of this device.

perhaps it's just me but this is one confusing thread. Simple question: I have a new iPad with a USB-C port. If I buy a USB-C to USB-B, will it work or not?

Has anybody here tried it?

The last responder insists it didn't work

It does sometimes work... for me it's about 1 in every 10 times I connect it.

I don't think you'll find a definitive statement anywhere in the online documentation to say that it should work. Remember this is a device that long predates the modern USB-C ipads.
