Another question about latency...(I know--done to death!)

Postby jwl1972 » Mon Apr 11, 2022 11:23 pm

Ok, so I'm running my guitars through an M-Audio M-Track two track interface, into a 1 1/2 month old Mac Mini (m1 chip) and using Amplitube 4 MAX...and I'm getting horrible lagging. I've reduced the buffer size down to 64 (any more it starts to make noises), I've also--to my knowledge--followed every other piece of advice from this forum, from YouTube, from M-Audio's website...I don't know what to do.

I'm wondering if maybe there is SOMETHING I've missed in the Logic Pro settings, Amplitube settings, or maybe its the interface. Do I need to upgrade from the M-Track (about 8 years old) and, if so, what would be the recommendation?

I hope somebody can help...I just want to record some music...

Hello jwl1972

If you're using AT4 within Logic, then Logic takes care of the buffer size etc so changing things in AT4 probably won't make a difference.

Do you have anything else effects-wise running in Logic? Particularly on the stereo out?

No. Nothing. I don't even have a lot of pedals in my signal chain...I'll just load an amp setting as it is and.....lag. A lot of times it will start out with no lag, then about 5 or 6 seconds in, lag develops.

It's frustrating.

I can imagine it is frustrating.

To be honest, it could be something to do with either AT4 or the interface being old and not being compatible with the new Mac CPU or OS.

As this is a user-to-user forum and not direct to IKM support, in case no one else chimes in here with advice or a solution the best thing to do is check the FAQs, via https://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-su ... ck=QUICKSW

If these do not resolve the issue, there is a link to the Technical Support form at the top of the Search FAQs page, for direct help from Official IK Support. They endeavour to reply within 2 working days, but obviously considering the current situation things may take longer than usual.

And, to help others who run into a similar problem, please let us know what you did to resolve the issues, but without directly quoting any correspondence from official support.

Thinking about it, have you tried using the amp sims in Logic? That would at least show you if the problem is with the interface if these exhibit the same issues...

Or, even easier: first just disable the AT4 plugin. If you still get the same latency, it's not an AT problem.

Also try running AmpliTube in standalone.

I have just used the amp sims in Logic and I haven't experienced any lag. I don't remember if I've just used it in standalone. I'll give that a try tomorrow.

On a side note, because of my frustration with lag, I noticed that NuralDSP was having a sale on their plugins, so I bought three of them. They sound amazing, but more importantly: NO LAG. So I'm pretty sure that settles it that it's an AT4 problem. But here's another question: could upgrading from AT4 to AT5 make a difference? I think I remember someone saying that they sort of overhauled it in some aspects.

I forgot to add this little touch of wackiness: after installing [other] plugins, I now have maybe 1/2 second of lag now with AT4. It's still noticeable, but its not as horrid as it was.

Now, I'm really confused... :?

I just wanted to ask those questions again:

1. Would upgrading to AT5 eliminate the lag in AT4?
and
2. Would upgrading the audio interface eliminate the lag?
