Leslie cab rotor control in AT 5

Postby livesforrap » Fri Mar 11, 2022 2:11 am

Hi,

Am I just daft or is there no way to control the rotor in AT5 for a midi controller? I am unable to figure it out in Studio One or Reason.

Ok, so looks like the answer is it simply isn't possible. That's just crazy. I mean, what good is a leslie w/o being able to have the rotor speed up and slow down (and the brake) ???

???

Wish it wasn't that way, I'd snatch it right up.

You can assign midi CC to control Speed and brake for leslie cabinets directly on the Control->Control Change->Preset section of the settings window

Hun. Well, good luck to me figuring that out. I RTFM and couldn't find that.

I'm old, forgive me.

All joking aside, this should be a sticky or something because it is NOT obvious to the average user.

Well, this may be related to it being in demo mode, but I'm having an issue.

When saving a preset, the rotor control is not saved. And also, I'm having some issues with getting each cab to have the rotor control (for example having all the cabs saved in a template in a daw to check the sound quality of each one)

Anyways, it doesn't seem to be straight forward.

So I got all this to work and at 50 bucks I bought it. It's lovely but I'm still frustrated with all the extra steps you have to do in order to get it to work with a controller. I wish IK was as simple as (insert company here) with midi controlling where you just click on thing "x" and it just shows up and then connect the controller.

It's very difficult for 2022 to not be able to have a preset or a DAW preset where it's just "done" ;)

What’s happening to me is that in Amplitube 5 standalone I set the Leslie speed to respond to CC1-mod wheel and in the lower left, the midi light blinks yellow. Everything worked great. When I open it in a DAW (Cubase for recording, Mainstage for live) to use as an insert effect, the midi icon remains gray and doesn’t respond to any midi input whether it’s using a controller or responding to pre-recorded midi data. The issue seems to be limited to DAWs since in the Amplitube mapping area CC 1 is correctly mapped to Leslie speed - and it works in standalone. If I can’t get it to work in Cubase or Mainstage though, it’s not much use.
Any ideas? Odd that it happens in every DAW I have (Cubase, MS, and Live). Thanks

Its actually pretty easy in Amplitube and gets more complex inside a DAW... but also not that hard once you figure it out. you have to set it up with the MIDI setup You will have to use the MIDI assignment functions in the DAW and likely the plugin will need to be OPEN when you want to use the function... I thought I saw a video on You Tube pertaining to this in Cubase... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nGEQriFS_g shows SOME... you may need to be more indepth I always found it easiest to assign my Expression Pedal to the function as a switch... Rock it FORWARD Leslie FAST, ROCK Back LESLIE NORMAL... I use a different DAW so I am not sure how you need to set it up... it is more DAW than Amplitube though at this point.

Thanks. That makes sense. Through someone else’s post I was able to assign the Leslie speed to a mod wheel using quick controls in Cubase, although it only works with R/W automation, not mod info on a midi track recording.
In MainStage, I’ve had no success in assigning any type of controller to Leslie speed so not much use to me live. I did, though, have success playing a live organ through AT5 in standalone and controlling the Leslie speed with a mod wheel. So, the hunt continues to see if it’s possible to use the AT5 Leslie as a live assignable plugin with MainStage.
