Do I need foot switch to use looper?

Do I need a foot switch to use the very basics of the looper in amplitube 5 max? I just want to do one track of a chord progression so I can solo over it. I don't have one and I was wondering if and how I can still utilize the looper. Will the timing be off considering I would have to stop playing and immediately hit the stop record button with my finger?

I have the same problem. If one is not using a pedal and is forced to operate the controls for the looper with one's hands, is there a way to edit a loop to trim off the inevitable 2 seconds of silence that come when I finish playing, drop the guitar, and lunge for the mouse to stop it recording?
