Axe I/O latency only with a mic?

I've been using the Axe I/O just fine for quite some time. Windows 11, Cakewalk by Bandlab. I have the buffer set fairly low, no problem with latency running my guitar through it. but using a mic the latency is awful. Any reason why? Thanks.
