Why is it the iRig Pro Duo will run for 10 hours (playback only) on niMh batteries, but onyl three hours on alkalines?

- but most importantly I want to know IF it's true about NiMh rechargeables lasting longer.

I have been getting through batteries much too fast & I figured if I use rechargeables the life will be even shorter.

What do people recommend? I chose this interface because a connected power supply is impractical for me, but batteries are going way too fast
