iRig Keys: proprietor USB required?

Postby Jason1234 » Mon Nov 04, 2019 4:28 am

Hello,

I have been using iRig Keys since 2015. It has always worked like a charm, that is until I recently moved. I am not sure, but it appears that I am not using the USB cable originally included with the package I purchased 4 years ago (yes, my move was extremely chaotic and so I am now sorting out all my gear). The reason I mention this is because now that my new studio space is set up I have tried to connect a USB from my iRig into my Mac desktop with no success.

The red light does not engage and this is incredibly frustrating. Online searches describe a required "lightening" Micro USB cable but I'm not so sure if this is the one I need. To be clear, the USB that came with my iRigs looked almost exactly like one that is used for a cell phone; it would be very difficult to tell them apart by appearance alone.

So, do I need to use the same USB purchased with the keyboard? If so what do I need to buy?

Thank you

According to the product specs page on all three available iRig Keys items, they all use the [USB to Micro-USB Cable], which is a standard cable.

These are not the same as the proprietary Apple lightning cables:

I read the IK spec too but it wasn't super clear. However, your response was super helpful in that it confirms what I kind of suspected.

It's nice to know that I only need to spend a few dollars on this.

Thanks Dave,

iRig Keys has a DIN connector on the back so you'd need the cable that came with iRig Keys (I'm referring to https://www.ikmultimedia.com/products/irigkeys/ just so we're on the same page).

Any replacement cables can be found at https://www.ikmultimedia.com/spareparts/

The other iRig Keys units seem to be covered above. You can also find what cable is available for which specific models at the link above.
