Axe I/O Headphone Output Power Question

Postby Sirkus_Pi » Sun Sep 15, 2019 4:39 pm

Quick question about the Axe I/O headphone output: does it have enough power to drive high-impedance headphones (in the 250-300 ohm range)? Or is it better to use a headphone amp?

If the latter, I assume I could hook the amp up to Axe I/O's outputs 3 and 4 (which I understand are independent of the volume control on the front)? Or would I hook it up using the headphone output? In either case, if I wanted to use something like the Presonus HP4, I'd have to get an adapter cord to the HP4's RCA inputs. Or am I confused and this is all a bad idea?

Thanks!

I have been using Sony MDR-7506 headphones for many years, they are considered high impedance rated at 63 Ω at 1 kHz. Using those headphones, I can only turn up the headphone volume knob to 1/4 and sometimes that's too loud.
