Tonex One - no sound without enabling additional effects?

Postby Gewgaws2000 » Mon Mar 31, 2025 8:17 pm

Brand new Tonex One. My first IKMM hardware. Guitar -> TX1 -> FRFR. No sound AT ALL unless effects are added to signal chain in Tonex Editor. Not quiet; SILENT. Hard mute. Is this expected behavior?

- Fresh installs of ALL IKMM hardware and software (including IKPM),
- Tonex and Editor installed via IKPM,
- Pedal connected via USB and 9v,
- Pedal updated to firmware 1.3.11,
- All cables are mono.

My journey of discovery:
Default "A" preset "SUPERREVERB" goes completely silent if I disable Reverb in the effects chain.
Default "B" preset "JUST800" dead silent unless I enable some kind of Modulation in the effects chain.
All other presets (or tone models or whatever the right term is) SILENT without some kind of effect enabled.
Including pedal-only captures.
Same with any ToneNET downloaded models.
The required extra effect varies by preset. Sometimes it's already enabled, sometimes it isn't.
Hard mute if the required effect has a "blend/mix"-type control and bring I bring it down to zero.

The pedal passes absolutely NOTHING without something in the extra effects chain being active.

Same experience on both Windows 11 (Home) and Max OSX v12.x (my MacBook is ancient)..

Is this normal? Because I do not want this.

I already [re-]imported the Default Library. I "recovered" the pedal. No difference. Please help.
I'm on the verge of returning this thing.

Sort of same issue here. Very frustrating.

Tried on MacOS new firmware, even factory reset. Cannot even bypass it. My other pedals take the signal just fine, but the Tonex One doesn't even get an input (when using the HardWare Input Meter).

Thought my unit is just faulty.

Those don't sound like the same issue. Both should be reported to IK Support for direct and official assistance via https://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support/hw if you have not already done so. They will be able to help resolve these issues.

Please make sure your TONEX ONE/Pedal is in the right mode as there are Live and Interface modes. The User Manual will walk you through changing the mode.

Thank you.

Issue resolved. It was 100% my own fault: the short patch cable connecting the TX1 to the Headrush was actually a stereo cable. Replacing it with a mono cable instantly fixed the issue. I am ashamed that I didn't take the basic troubleshooting step of replacing my cables before I raised my hand. Quite embarrassing.

It happens. I like when something similar happens to me but on top of generally missing something simple I've either complained excessively about the issue as if it wasn't my fault first, or better yet I "could have sworn I already checked that".

Don't even ask about some DIY "fixes" that have almost literally blown up in my face. I've travelled enough times around the sun to have plenty of brain farts and dippy moments, like I said it happens!
