Can't use TONEX software without Product Manager?

Postby fjzax » Mon Nov 04, 2024 8:52 pm

Hello all,

New TONEX user here. Whenever I launch TONEX (plugin and stand alone), I get the following warning when I am not logged in to the Product Manager: WARNING Authorization missing! Please quit TONEX and re-authorize using IK's Product Manager. When I'm logged in to Product Manager, I don't get that warning. Do I really need to be logged in to just use the tone models and presets that are local to my machine (without accessing ToneNet)?

I have the latest version of TONEX (max) on Windows 11.

Thanks

You should only need to log on and open IK Product Manager when you initially authorize and I believe it may need to be after a long period of time. Sounds like something is making TONEX think it is no longer authorized so I'd suggest reaching out to IK Support via https://www.ikmultimedia.com/contact-support/sw so they can troubleshoot directly with you and get you all fixed up.

Hi FJ,
Did you get a solution to this issue,as I'm having exactly the same problem,ie unable to use the TONEX app or Standalone without being internet connected, which I'm not for 99% of the time to reduce CPU usage on Defender,Firewalls etc

I've uninstalled and re-installed TONEX twice and re-authorised it with no issue.

Strangely,TONEX works fine from within Amplitube 5 in both Standalone and DAW VST in Studio One Pro.

Any comments,suggestions welcome.
Thanks.

Hi Neil,

Tried a few things with support on this, and when they looked into it further at their end, I was told that I in fact need to be logged in to Product Manager to use Tonex. I was also told though that if I close PM while still logged into it, it does not connect to the internet. I can confirm that I'm able to use Tonex this way, and I can also confirm that when I close PM while still logged in to it, the program doesn't show up in the Processes section in my Task Manager.

Hope that helps,
fj

Thanks FJ for the late evening reply...
Sadly for me this is totally impractical,as I'm not internet connected in my studio and have the laptop wireless card disabled.

Other correspondents have reported the same solution being suggested, which begs several questions:-

1.Is this a standard requirement to need IKPM logged in,in order to use TONEX?If so,why do eg Amplitube 5 and Hammond Organ function perfectly with no current IKPM session?

2.What is the rationale behind this requirement, given that many of us like to have connectivity disconnected to allow anti-virus and update functionality switched off unless needed, thus saving CPU time and unnecessary background activity.

3. Is this requirement stated explicitly in the current TONEX 1.8.1 User Guide? Obviously a live connection is needed for access to ToneNET,but surely not just for the basic product to work?

Pending a reply from IK Support,I can still use TONEX within A5,albeit with reduced capability, but far from what I was expecting for the money.

Hi Neil,

Those are all great questions and I agree that being logged in to IKPM for basic use of the Tonex software should not be a thing.

Please let me (us) know what supports tells you. Fingers crossed that they can address this in a future update of the Tonex app.

You shouldn't need to be connected to the internet, just logged in to IK Product Manager. IK Support can explain further, please continue to work with them directly.

Hi Peter & FJ,
That workaround seems to have solved the issue,at least for me,so here's the steps in case it may be of use to other forum members with the Authorisation Missing warning if they're new to TONEX,as I am and wish to operate their sound engineering PCs offline from the Internet:-

1. Connect to IK Product Manager as normal.
2. Run either the TONEX VST plugin in your DAW or the Standalone programme.
3. Ensure the Authorisation Missing caption doesn't appear.
4. Kill either the plugin or Standalone.
5. Leaving the IK Product Manager logged in,disconnect from the Internet.
6. Load the VST or Standalone again and check once again that the warning caption doesn't appear.
7. Shut down and restart your PC while the IKPM is still active.
8. Check TONEX again...hopefully whatever magic spell was weaved by the above steps will remain and you can now run TONEX normally.

Thanks to @fjzax and IK 1st line troubleshooter/supremo Peter(don't you ever sleep Peter..?)for the suggested path to the fix.

@Peter...does this need to be formally added to the User Guide in future editions(please..)

Regards and Happy 2025.
