Tonex pedal low output

Postby sofokleus667 » Fri Jun 07, 2024 1:24 pm

Guys what is the maximum db tonex pedal output should hit in my audio interface?

I have everything at max and it is still too low volume.

Is there a way to fix this?

Regards,

Same here, what I do is run a clean boost after but I still have to max out the Tonex output volume. I run an AMT little volume pedal after Tonex that has 3 different levels of output from 0 to +12, at +6db the signal is then too hot and have to lower Tonex to 5 on the output.

Is there a reason you would not just use the plug-in if you are recording?

Yes, when the project is loaded with plugins lower buffer brings glitches.

The problem is not only recording. I've connected the pedal to my audio interface and it's really difficult to match the volume of the pedal other applications' volume. E.g. when I want to play with a backing track I need to lower the volume from windows or the music app too much.

I figured out the solution!!!!

The default GLOBAL output volume is set too low by default. I’m not sure the reason they did that, but the default volume makes the ToneX One unusable as a real pedal.

I posted the instructions how to fix it here:

https://www.thegearpage.net/board/index ... t-39948599

The shower answer is:
You can’t do this in the ToneX software, only on the pedal itself.
Look at the manual or click the link about to get into global settings ON THE PEDAL.
Turn the volume knob all the way down and then all the way up to set the pedal max output to the maximum level, then press the pedal switch button to get out of the global settings.

After I did this all the stomp pedals and everything else worked on my pedal board at the expected volume. Otherwise when I engage the pedal the volume of the guitar was getting turned way down and turning the preset volume up to maximum wasn’t enough.

Now with this set it finally works right.

I submitted a support ticket to IK Multimedia to fix this and make this global volume setting available in the pedal settings in the ToneX software. I’m shocked it’s not adjustable there.

Ticket #7525687

Others who struggled with this should open a support ticket and reference that ticket and tell them to prioritize to fix it.

To me, advertising the ToneX as a stomp pedal and have the default global output volume so low makes most people think this thing is garbage. When you set the ToneX One onto a tube screamer, and plug your guitar in and plug it into your pedal board, then you stomp on the ToneX to enable it, and then it TURNS YOUr GUITAR DOWN!?! Even when you crank the ToneX volume knob it still is too soft!

I have found many forums of people complaining about this issue and they talk about many work aronnds like putting compressors after the pedal and everything else, but I didn’t find a single other post explaining to turn up the global output volume. That is why I’m trying to post this wherever I see others complaining without the solution.

The ToneX One is incredible. But this simple issue is causing a lot of people to return them or feel that the tone models don’t work right on the pedal.

Does this fix work for tonex pedal? You're referring to tonex one in your post.

I don’t have the ToneX but it appears that this is possible based on ChatGPT giving me the following instructions. Check the manual if this isn’t right. I turned my ToneX global output volume to the MAX and now it’s working exactly how I would want giving me plenty of headroom to turn it up or down.

To adjust the global volume on your IK Multimedia TONEX Pedal, follow these steps:
1. Access Global Settings: Press and hold the MODEL encoder until the global settings menu appears on the display.
2. Navigate to Main Volume: Rotate the MODEL encoder to scroll through the settings until you find MAIN VOL.
3. Adjust the Volume: Turn the VOL/GAIN knob to set your desired global output level.
4. Save and Exit: Once you’ve set the volume, press and hold the MODEL encoder again to save your changes and exit the global settings menu.

This procedure adjusts the overall output level of your TONEX Pedal, affecting all presets uniformly. For more detailed information, refer to the TONEX Pedal User Manual.

Has anybody else noticed an awful whining noise coming from the ToneX One when plugged into a guitar pedal board power supply buss?

I fixed my entire board to be quiet again by putting this “power noise blocker” on the ToneX One and now my pedal board is completely quiet again. It blocks the noise feeding back from the ToneX One into the pedalboard buss.
