Problem with extreme high gain captures with ToneX

Problem with extreme high gain captures with ToneX.

Every self-created high gain capture has too little gain in the finished preset compared to the original.
Even increasing the “gain” at the end of the capture training does not bring enough gain as with the original.

Both with real amp/cab captures and with captures from Amplitube 5 like in these instructions on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jUwTye51f48).

I have already increased the input and output in the ToneX software.

All parameters are set correctly in the interface (UMC404), in the ToneX Capture Box and in the software.

With normal crunch/rock sounds with little gain, the capture sounds like the original.

Can ToneX not “capture” the extremely distorted sounds correctly or why does ToneX reduce the gain so much?

Do you have any tips?

Did you ever figure this out? I have exactly the same problem.

Have you guys got all your gain staging set similarly between when you make the capture and use the capture? Might be something to check.

Well, unfortunately, I have not yet been able to solve the problem.

Next time I have some time to spare, I will try to measure the signal that ToneX outputs during the capture process right after my interface and the the ToneX Capture Box using a multimeter and also loop it directly back into the interface and record it in the DAW. Then I will do the same, but only connect my guitar directly into the input of the ToneX capture box and see if there is a relevant difference.

If three is not difference I honestly don't know what to do anymore.

You need to use a boost pedal after the reamp DI. This is a big problem with ToneX. It seems calibrated for a specific level, but no guitar is actually that level. It's just around that level.

I first record a guitar pass through a DI and amp at the same time. I then run the di out to the amp and record it. I use the boost pedal to make sure they sound exactly the same. Once the level (tone) is matched, the model will be as expected.

I still haven't found a use for the gain feature...
