Difference between Brit 8000 and British Tube Lead 1?

Postby rspst14 » Tue Dec 07, 2021 2:23 am

It looks like both of these amps are based on a JCM 800. British Tube Lead 1 has a reverb control while Brit 8000 does not. Other than that, is there any real difference between the two? Were these modeled from two different JCM 800 amps? Thanks.

They are from very different eras of AmpliTube. The British Tube Lead 1 dates back to, I think, the AmpliTube 2 era. It has been updated since then: up through AmpliTube 4, it retained the swappable preamp, EQ stack, and power amp sections with which it was originally released; these went away in AmpliTube 5, though other enhancements were made at the same time. The Brit 8000 was an all new model from the AmpliTube 4 era (though whether or not IKM based it on the same physical JCM800, I don't know -- that's one that perhaps only the IKM engineers could possibly answer!).

In general, I would say that you can expect both models to sound fairly similar, though the Brit 8000 is, of course, newer and thus perhaps more "accurate".
