Yes, the authorisation manager should be run even for the free software as it lets the app know exactly what you are running.
But, can I ask, are you definitely talking about AmpliTube 3? The reason I ask is that AmpliTube 4 was released a few years ago now so you would not have been able to download the free version of AT3 unless you had signed up for it before. Also, if you are thinking of buying AT3, then is this second hand software?
Either way, if you buy the software you should get a new serial number which will 'unlock' the other aspects of the software not available in the free version.
