Noise Issue with TONEX ONE When Using 9V DC Power

Postby afonsom98 » Mon Apr 14, 2025 1:13 pm

Dear IK Multimedia Support,

I recently purchased a TONEX ONE pedal and have encountered an issue related to power supply noise.

When powering the unit via the standard 9V DC input (center negative, 500mA), I hear a high-pitched whining noise coming from the pedal. This noise is both audible through the audio output and faintly from the pedal itself. I have thoroughly tested the unit with a high-quality isolated power supply (Fender Engine Room LVL8), using different power cables and outputs — all delivering clean, isolated 9V at more than 500mA. The issue persists in every scenario when powered at 9V DC.

However, the hight pitch noise disappears completely when I power the pedal via USB-C or when I switch the DC power supply to 12V (althought there is still digital noise, but thats from the GT1000Core, I think). The pedal functions perfectly at 12V with no noise.

This leads me to believe that the issue may be due to internal regulation or insufficient filtering when operating at 9V DC, even though this is the officially recommended voltage.

I would appreciate it if you could:

Confirm whether powering the TONEX ONE with 12V DC is safe and within spec.

Clarify whether this noise issue is a known limitation or if my unit could be defective.

Offer any suggestions to eliminate the noise when using 9V DC power.

Thank you in advance for your time and support. I look forward to your reply.

Best regards,
