What Computer is best for Music Recording?

Postby fazAliuyt2 » Fri Dec 10, 2021 1:47 pm

Greetings Everyone,
I haven't owned a desktop computer in nearly 10 years, and haven't had a laptop for about 5. I've been demoing things with my iPhone for years now but I feel like I'm finally ready to begin learning to record myself. I'm behind on the technology and am not sure of some things... Like if I will need an ssd or quad core processors and things like that. I want to buy a desktop on Black Friday and have done a bunch of research, but I still don't know if I should go mac or pc (money is an issue as I have to buy the software and hardware involved with recording still). My main question is, is there a pc desktop that is better for music production than the iMac all in ones?
Thank you

If money is an issue, I'd strongly recommend getting a preowned Mac mini for a few hundred bucks

I've never been an Apple person, so someone else will have to chime in on that. I had a new custom PC built last year by AVA Direct, I use it for a variety of things including music. I used to buy all the parts and build my own computers, but their prices were very fair for a custom-built machine that was assembled by experts and fully tested. They had a ton of options available and had it built within two months, not bad considering they were impacted by supply chain issues.

All you really need is a modern Intel or AMD processor and at least 16GB of RAM. If you like the idea of a custom build, they can help you put together a PC for music. This is how I configured mine:

• Fractal Design Define 7, No PSU, E-ATX, Black Mid Tower Case
• MSI MAG X570 TOMAHAWK WIFI, AMD X570 Chipset, AM4, HDMI, ATX Motherboard
• AMD Ryzen™ 7 3800X 8-Core 3.9 - 4.5GHz Turbo, AM4, 105W TDP, Retail Processor
• MSI Radeon RX 580 ARMOR 8G OC, 1366MHz, 8GB GDDR5, Graphics Card
• CORSAIR 16GB Kit (2 x 8GB) Vengeance LPX DDR4 3000MHz, CL15, Black, DIMM Memory
• EVGA 850 G5, 80 PLUS Gold 850W, ECO Mode, Fully Modular, ATX Power Supply
• COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Black Edition, 158.8mm Height, 150W TDP, Aluminum CPU Cooler
• Arctic Silver 5, 12g, High-Density Polysynthetic, Silver Thermal Compound
• 4 x be quiet! Silent Wings 3 140mm PWM, 1000 RPM, 59.5 CFM, 15.5 dBA, Cooling Fan
• SAMSUNG 500GB 970 EVO Plus 2280, 3500 / 3200 MB/s, V-NAND 3-bit MLC, PCIe 3.0 x4 NVMe, M.2 SSD
• CREATIVE Sound Blaster AE-7, Internal, 7.1 channels, 32-bit 384 kHz, w/ Amplifier, PCI Express, Sound Card
