USB-C to Lightning cable

Does anyone know whether an Apple MiFi Certified USB-C to Lightning cable will work with the HD2 with an iPad??

Or does IK have a proprietary chip in their cables?

I've seen stories of people buying cheap ones on line and getting error messages.

Asking for a friend. ;-)
