Dear Anyone.
I use an ancient DAW because I actually UNDERSTAND it! Thing IS - it does all its automation with CC commands. And not all VSTs respond to CC commands, or only to SOME of them (most seem to do CC10 for panning for example.) The one that seems the commonest NOT to be implemented is CC7 for volume! Which means I've got a whole collection of lurvely noisemakers - NOT IK ones! - that are stuck on full volume or the volume setting you initially set them on. Or respond to CC7 in weird ways (like Kontakt!)
So what I'm after is ANYTHING I could use as an insert effect that either responds to a CC number - doesn't HAVE to be 7 but would prefer it to be one that's not auto-assigned to something else, like panning for example (CC10) - or has MIDI LEARN/MIDI ASSIGN. All I want to do is stick in on the effects chain of a sound so I can automate its volume. I don't care what else the thing does as long as it's a VST2 (sorree - can't do VST3s) and it can automate slider sound volume. Surely there's gotta be SOMETHING out there that does something that simple?
Yup - I know about Blue Cat. But that's got a bug they've never addressed - it only works on Channel One of anything. So if you've got something multitimbral and you're using - say - 8 instruments in it, it would work on the first instrument but not on any of the others. And it keeps losing its settings - I can set it to CC7, suddenly it'll stop working and I'll find it's found a random other CC number and is using that. It's the 'only works on the first instrument' thing that's the killer for me with that one though, which is a real shame.
Am happy to buy, up to a point - not a millionaire! - I just dunno WHAT to buy. Maybe IK do something that would work?
Yours respectfully,
Chris.
