ARC Studio only for "studio monitors"?

Postby lcipher » Sat Dec 07, 2024 3:14 pm

Maybe a stupid question - but can you use the ARC Studio for a "home stereo hi-fi" type system? Or is it exclusively geared to studio / DAW type situations?

I've seen "room correction" gear in the past but either a) the software sucks or b) the hardware sucks. The IK stuff (AXE IO, etc) I have is solid and software first rate.

I mean (aside from the XLR and connections that I can deal with) why cant it be used for a normal "stereo" application?

My answer is yes, the ARC Studio can definitely be used for stereo setups. I use ARC plug-ins both for my home studio and hifi almost since the original ARC came out.

It's also possible to correct a stereo signal using ARC before it is fed to a multichannel audio setup.

I only use the plug-in, where practicality is the main issue.

The relatively new ARC Studio hardware is geared towards professional audio with a pair of symmetrical inputs and outputs that do not readily integrate into typical hifi setups.
The analysis still requires an interface capable to operate with a sampling rate of 48000Hz and that has a microphone input with phantom power and probably also a stereo output.

An alternative is to use an AV Receiver that comes with something like Audyssey MultEQ XT32, which also supports subwoofer(s) and multichannel audio, features ARC 4 and ARC Studio still lack. The original ARC was using code licensed from Audyssey.
