Tape Echo causes distortion in Syntronik

Postby Chrisk-K » Sun Mar 14, 2021 11:04 pm

I'm running Syntronik on my M1 Mac Mini with a MOTU M4 audio interface.

The default/usual configuration of "Tape Echo" typically causes low-level distortion in sustained notes or notes played with high velocity. The distortion disappears if I lower the input level from the noon to 10 o'clock or so in Tape Echo. The Digital Delay doesn't have this probelm at all. So, it seems that Tape Echo can properly handle only low input signal. I've noticed this issue in many presets.

Any comments are welcomed.

Hi Chrisk-K

As a guess, it may well be the inherent 'realness' of using tape. Overloading the inputs of a tape machine causes distortion. If you have lots of feedback back into the inputs of the Tape Echo, as well as a hot input signal, then it'll probably result in distortion.

For a more definitive answer, then maybe have a look through the FAQs on the site and open a ticket with Official IK Support.

Hope that helps.
