i have trouble getting older synths into ST4Max

Postby silver-machine » Tue Jul 09, 2019 5:22 pm

Hi

I have just successfully re-done ST4Max download and all works plus Syntronic
I have not yet updated the sounds.
Before i do that I would like to know the proceedure of how to get Samplemoog ,Sampletron sounds into Max to show in the lists.
I have looked in the manual and i have found importing samples ,but not legacy instruments.
how do i get them in??

all the best

Hi
What a palaver getting these synths in , the older ones i mean.
Having to load up sampletank 3 and getting all sounds together from all instruments parts
and point it to Sampletank 3.
There could of been a legacy import in sampletank 4 to shorten the work..
Well, That's progress!!   or relying on your inertia not to put them in so you buy more sounds!!

Funny, I was going to mention in my previous reply that ST4 does not have an Import Instruments feature, but then I forgot. :) Quite why I do not know. But, as you have found out, you can Import them using ST3 (even the free ST Custom Shop available in everyone's IK User Area) , then add the ST3 library to the disk paths in ST4.

Hi Darkstar
This Silver-Machine is really going sideways through time!! :?

It has been a long trek to load all again as i had mistakes in the last setup.
I have been ultra patient this time and all St4max and Syntronic works great and also in it's own shell.
Now i have Sonik Synth, SampleTron, Samplemoog and Sampletron and they are still great sounds.
The method of getting them into Sampletank 4 is very long winded.
After extraction you have to make dummy folders for transfer of all parts to get to one part.
Then rename that for the Synth name..
After you have imported into Sampletank 3 and got Sampletank 4 to point at it,you can then uninstall sampletank 3 and Sampletank 4 will retain them
after my marathon i will take an image of my computer so as not to fall into the same trap again.

all the best

:)

Sounds like a rigmarole to me, too. Backing up the complete libraries to another disk is always a good idea.

Hi Dark Star and all
I am having trouble getting the three synths i like for Sampletank 4 to recognize
I have had a right old game yesterday getting frustrated.
I loaded up Sampletank 3 and successfully got Sampemoog, Sonic Synth and SampleTron working.
I have put all of my Instrument samples on D drive not C drive
Sampletank 4 Max works great with my Instuments and samples on D Ddrive which is the largest drive. C drive is my fast drive.

I got all sounds from each of the sampletank 2 synths and put those in a folder name Sampletank 3.
I then imported those into Sampletank 3.( I had put Sampletank 3 sounds part 1 in as to get the Sampletank 3 box to show up that shows the drop down list of the three Synths).
I then go to Sampletank 4 Max and choose the SampleTron first from the Sampletank 3 file and re-scan and it appears in the imported section.
I then go for Sample Moog and that went in and wiped out SampleTron somehow.
Now i am getting in a pickle and at the end of the buffers with nowhere to go.
I tried a few times going back and forth, but sometimes nothing showed up .
Does anyone know a full proof way of doing this as i am scratching my head here.
Any help appreciated
I wished there was a video on this subject and more explanation in the manual.
It just says point to the folder after imported into Sampletank 3.

My understanding is:
-- you have Imported the legacy instruments (SampleMoog, SampleTron, Sonik Synth 2) into ST3,
-- they are all working OK in ST3,
-- all you should need to do then is ADD the path to the ST3 sounds library folder to the path list in ST4's Settings,
-- you may need to rebuild the ST4 database cache,
-- all the "ST3 (and imported)" instruments should then appear in the ST4 Browser.

If that is not the case, then someone-else may chime in. Meanwhile, the best thing to do is raise a Support Ticket, here:

for some one to one help (US (East Coast) Business hours, generally).

Hi Darkstar
Lucky i am retired, but a young 68 and really a prog rocker, but love all sorts down to ska soul, stax, and 30s music etc, but i hate todays Millenium whoop moo moo music.Today's music is less adventureous and too uniform and minimal. Minor rant over!!! :P
I have got all going well now with the older Synths.
It is a bit of a rigmarole.
Yo have to put the Legacy synth in the Sampletank 3 folder you make.
Import that to Sampletank 3 and all shows up twice.
Go to Instruments in Sampletank 3 folder and delete the legacy instrument.
Your instument now shows up in the Imported folder in the Sampletank 3 folder .
In my case on D/drive whilst the engines are on C.

I just have a little problem with Syntronic as all instruments are not showing in Sampletank 4.
I type in some instruments and no show.
I am going back and looking into it

All the best
John :)

Should I moderate those first 4 lines? Maybe not, try the link in my signature. :)

I do not think that you have to put the legacy instruments into the ST3 library folder, Import them and then delete them. At least I did not do that - I just Imported my legacy instruments from their original folders into ST3 (both on drive K:).

Hi Darkstar
Oh well, It worked my way in the end as i tried just what you had said and nothing happened.
Computers a funny thing sometimes.
I may have bungled my way through

UPDATE__ At last all in, but what a headache. The last isult was Syntronic cannot be found as it should be in samples folder.
i thought it should go in the instrument folder.
Well it worked when the prompt guided me. What am i to argue with that!!
How are others coping????

All the best
