Velocity in amp, Yamaha C7 sample Tank

Postby JoopJoop » Fri Mar 01, 2024 10:24 am

Dear users,
I'm trying to set-up the Yamaha C7 in Sample Tank.
If I tune the velocity setting, the effect is that the low velocities becomes much louder and the higher velocities are unchanged. Is this normal behaviour? Is there a way to tune them all?
The sound of the lower velocities changes as well, and that is the part I actually like,

regards,
Joop

Apparently no replies.
Is anybody able to make a usefull use of this velocity setting in the edit panel?

Can you explain this a bit more? I’m working through some Pianoverse issues myself, and don’t mind poking around a bit.

Hi ski88keys,

sorry for the late reply, I was on holidays when your message arrived.
I believe that I start to understand what is going on, but some confirmation and a description in the manual would be really helpful. I do not really get imaged uploaded in this box, so I have to describe.
Standard level is on +80 and Velocity on -30 (-100 being fully to the left, +100 fully to the right). This sounds rather normal, so that is ok.
Now with Velocity on neutral my impression is that almost all samples sound equally loud, with velocity further to the right, i.e. +50 or so the lower velocities sound much louder than the high velocities. Level must be turned down, otherwise you will blow out your headphones. Bad on this is that at the low velocities the mechanical sounds of the keys become very loud, I do not see any possibility to turn that down.
Doing this with e.g. the C70P electronic piano this makes the release sound far too strong, so you have to correct that, surprisingly by tuning the velocity completely down.
With Velocity to the left (-100) the low velocities become much less loud, i.e. almost inaudible and high velocities are louder.
So, it gives some possibilities to use the low velocity samples, which actually sound nice, at a much higher loudness. A possibility to turn down the mechanical sounds would have been nice.
regards,
Joop

Joop, it is gonna take me some time before I can look at this. My studio is going through a Reno and upgrade. Hopefully someone else can jump in and take a look.
